The power of research

By the CDHP team

This week, the Children’s Dental Health Project (CDHP) was pleased to present our inaugural Oral Health Policy Research Award to Elana Lowell Shlansky, DDS, MPH.  In creating this award, CDHP seeks to honor emerging professionals whose research can illuminate policies to improve oral health in America. Dr. Shlansky’s research examines how several developed nations finance and deliver dental care. By identifying how dental services are delivered elsewhere, her work suggests policy options that could be explored in the fragmented U.S. health care system.

A 2014 graduate of Columbia University College of Dental Medicine and the Mailman School of Public Health as a dental public health scholar, Dr. Shlansky participated in the five-year scholar program with support from a Health Resources and Services Administration pre-doctoral training grant. CDHP’s founder, Dr. Burton Edelstein, is the program’s director. Dr. Shlansky, a native of the Washington, D.C. area, will soon move to California for a general dentistry residency in a Veterans Administration hospital. She plans to further address the needs of underserved and vulnerable adults through health policy endeavors.

We congratulate Dr. Shlansky and look forward to her future contributions in dental public health research.
